Sling Suitability and Compatability

Sling Suitability  The suitability of a sling is subject to several variable factors including the clinical condition of the service user. Any descriptions of slings and suggested suitability does not guarantee a sling the optimum choice for a particular situation or user. For example, a Universal sing can be used with moulded wheelchair seating. However, the SAS Para sling will usually make the task much easier for the carer and more dignified for the service user. Guidance in this brochure is based on typical situations and must not to taken as a substitute for individual assessment.

.

Compatibility Some hoist manufacturers would have you believe that it is unsafe to use any sling other than their own. British and European Standard BS EN10535, suggests that compatibility between hoists and slings is the responsibility of the sling manufacturer. (Note: "Body Support Unit" is the generic term used in the Standard for all slings, stretchers, seats etc. Suspended from a hoist).

Glove Slings have been risk assessed, tested and approved as compatible with Arjo, Oxford, Chiltern, Westholme, Liko  and most other popular makes of hoist. A full statement of approvals is available on request. Hoists not on the approved list may be compatible and can be assessed for compatibility free of charge. Written confirmation will be provided subject to approval.
