Glove Slings - Fit to Raise Expectations

Sling Suitability & Assessment Support

The suitability of a sling is subject to several variable factors including the clinical condition of the service user. Any descriptions of slings and suggested suitability does not guarantee a sling the optimum choice for a particular situation or user. For example, a Universal sing can be used with molded wheelchair seating. However, the SAS Para sling will usually make the task much easier for the carer and more dignified for the service user. Guidance in this brochure is based on typical situations and must not to taken as a substitute for individual assessment.

Compatibility

Some hoist manufacturers would have you believe that it is unsafe to use any sling other than their own. British and European Standard BS EN10535, suggests that compatibility between hoists and slings is the responsibility of the sling manufacturer. (Note: "Body Support Unit" is the generic term used in the Standard for all slings, stretchers, seats etc. Suspended from a hoist).

Glove Slings have been risk assessed, tested and approved as compatible with Arjo, Oxford, Chiltern, Westholme, Liko  and most other popular makes of hoist. A full statement of approvals is available on request. Hoists not on the approved list may be compatible and can be assessed for compatibility free of charge. Written confirmation will be provided subject to approval.

Loops or Clips

Glove Slings can be supplied in loop or clip variations to suit most makes of hoist.  Your approved Glove Sling supplier will be pleased to help you order the correct sling compatible to your hoist, even if it is not on our list of approved hoists.

Tissue Viability

People with pressure ulcers still need to be transferred and an inappropriate sling can cause tissue viability problems.  Some models of Glove Sling have inherent benefits in their design that can reduce risks from pressure and shear.

Safety and Quality Standards

The manufacturer, Care and Independence Systems Ltd, are registered with the Medicines and Health Care Regulatory Agency of the UK Government to manufacture Class 1 Medical Devices.  Glove Slings are categorised as a Class 1 Medical Device and carry the CE mark under the European Medical Device Directive EU93-42.  They are designed and manufactured under the externally accredited BS EN ISO 9001:2008 quality system well beyond the requirements of BS EN 10535:2006, The Hoist and Sling Standard.  Not content with that, every sling is thoroughly inspected by two individuals who each initial the Blue and Orange quality tag attached to every sling before despatched.  Every sling is labelled with a unique serial number to assist with trace ability and for recording LOLER examinations.
